One of the premiere grunge bands of the late 80s and 90s, Mudhoney was formed in Seattle in 1988. They were a huge influence on some of the greatest bands of the generation including Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.
Originally known as Mr. Epp and the Calculations, Mudhoney was formed by Mark McLaughlin and his friends. The band went through another name change to Green River in the late 1980s before they signed with Sub Pop and became known as Mudhoney (named after the movie by Russ Meyer).
The debut EP on Sub Pop, Superfuzz Bigmuff, launched the band and the grunge sound across the United States. This early success is partially responsible for the rise of other bands from the Seattle area including Nirvana and Soundgarden
